John Washington Diven, 68, of Shippensburg departed this world Saturday, June 17, 2023. He was born August 21, 1954 at his home to the late James Franklin and Anna Romaine (Matthews) Diven. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
John graduated from Shippensburg Senior High School in 1973 and worked as a truck driver for the majority of his life eventually completing the Million Mile Safe Driver Award at the former Cressler Trucking Company in 2000. He retired from Bowhead Logistics Management at the Letterkenny Army Depot in August of 2020.
In his spare time John enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing and also enjoyed listening to the Nascar races on the TV in the background. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #2500, the Oscar M Hykes American Legion Post #223, and Minnequa Social Club, all of Shippensburg. Aside from his hobbies, John also found great joy in his pets Scooter, Lizzy, Ms. Kitty, and Precious.
John is survived by his companion Melinda G. Hager of Shippensburg; four children; Crystal L. Wadel of Shippensburg, Amanda J. Hollenshead and husband Justin of Chambersburg, Crystal. M Bowerman and husband Jeremy of Scotland, and Danny J. Pelletier and wife Brittany of New Hampshire; four granddaughters; five grandsons; and 1 great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. John is also survived by his companion’s children Christine Miller of Newville and her children, Thomas and Geralynne, and Will Hudson and wife Lisa of Gardeners.
Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home and Crematorium Inc. in Shippensburg. There will be no public viewing, visitation, or funeral services. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date and time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.
