John J. Chaney, 91 of Newburg, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at his home.
Born December 15, 1920 in Salisbury, Somerset County PA, he was a son of the late John D. and Nancy C. Albright Chaney.
John retired in 1984 from the Operating Engineers Local 542 as a heavy equipment operating engineer and was a member of their union. He was a lifetime member of the Chambersburg Saddle Club, a member of the Pennsylvania Quarter Horse Association, and the American Quarter Horse Association. John was a lifelong horse lover.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Betty Jane Fisher Chaney; two daughters Gloria J. Ashway and her husband Roger, of Newburg, and Diane C. Christensen and her husband Arthur of Elkton, MD; three brothers, Howard Chaney of Lebanon, Roy Chaney of Buckstown, and Roger Chaney of Salisbury, PA; four sisters, Gladys Mitchell of Somerset, Dorothy Eisentrout of Salisbury, Nancy Moon of New Florence, and Carol Lee of Stafford, VA; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ray W. Chaney, and one sister, Alice Catherine Kinsinger.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., with the Rev. Dale H. Miller, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Otterbein Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday in the funeral home.
