John Brown

John Franklin Brown, 74, of Walnut Bottom, departed this life on the afternoon of Saturday, December 10, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 25, 1942, in Newville, a son of the late Clair F. and Mary J. Varner Brown and attended Shippensburg Area Schools. John married Susan Dorosh on January 25, 1964 at Christ the Savior Eastern Orthodox Church, Harrisburg, PA.

John retired in August of 2002, with nineteen years of service in the Utility Plant at Shippensburg University. Prior to that, John worked for twenty-five years for the Fickes Silo Company, Newville, where he was a crew chief, building silos throughout five states. John was also owner and operator of Brown’s Custom Pools for thirty-four years and he enjoyed working with his customers in building and maintaining their pools.

He was a longtime member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where he had been member of the Council of Trustees and volunteered for many other activities of the Church. John was a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon and the Big Spring Lodge No. 361 F. & A.M., Newville. He was a charter member of the South Newton Volunteer Fire Co., a life member of the Shippensburg Fish and Game Association, the Vet’s Canteen Association of Shippensburg, the Sons of the American Legion and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg, a life member of the Walnut Bottom Rod and Gun Club, and the Larch Pine Hunting Club.

In addition to his wife of fifty two years, Susan, John is survived by his daughter, Bobbi A. Olson and companion Tom Myers; two granddaughters, Kimberly Olson (Ryan) Reid and Brittany N. Olson; a great grandson, Joshua Reid; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Terry, and his sister, Sandra Kay “Cindy”.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at the Trinity United Methodist church, Walnut Bottom. The Rev. Harold A. Bolyard will officiate. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, with a Masonic Service taking place at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a viewing one hour prior to the service on Thursday at church.

John’s family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Community Home Health and Grane Hospice for their loving care. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church at 118 West Main Street Walnut Bottom, PA 17266.
