John Beam

April 22, 1943 — September 23, 2020

John L. Beam, 77, of Newburg, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at his son’s home.

He was born April 22, 1943 in Shippensburg, PA. John was a son of the late Roy M. and Emma Stouffer Beam.

John was a member of the Newburg First Church of God where he was a Deacon and served on various church committees. He served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. John retired from the Chambersburg Hospital where he was a printer for 39 years. He loved hunting, gardening, his kitties, 4-wheeler poker runs, gun drawings, and spending time with family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Burgan Beam whom he married March 26, 1967. She passed away June 5, 2006. Ten brothers, Ralph, William, Joseph, Ernest, Jay, Calvin, Hughie, Robert, Herbert and James Beam; and three sisters, Ida Wadel, Betty Beam and Edna O’Donnell are also deceased.

John is survived by one son, Daniel (Cathy McHenry) Beam of Newburg; one daughter, Angela D. Beam of Shippensburg; one grandson, Robert Whitmer of Shippensburg; two brothers, Donald Beam of Bristol, CT and Melvin Beam of Shippensburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 28, 2020 at 10 a.m. in the Newburg First Church of God. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Moss and Pastor Peter Cook. Burial with military honors conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223 Marching Unit will be in the Norland Cemetery. A viewing will be held Sunday from 4-6 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg and one hour prior to the services at church.
