Joel L. Frelin, 81, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Wednesday, October 19, 2016.

Born on May 29, 1935, in Chambersburg, the son of the late Jule and Mary Griffith Frelin. Joel was a 1953 graduate of Shippensburg High School and married Ethel “Mookie’ Holtry on July 14, 1956 at the Leesburg U.M.C., Shippensburg.

Joel worked as an Engineer at the former S.K.F., Shippensburg, for thirty five years, retiring in 1991. He then worked part time, delivering auto parts, for Cashers, Chambersburg, which he always enjoyed because of all the people he would meet.

Post #6168, the Hub City Club, all of Shippensburg, and the Chambersburg Moose Lodge # 842. In his younger years, Joel enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golf, and sports of all kind. He also played minor league baseball for the Philadelphia Athletics and was an umpire for collegiate and adult league baseball. Joel was instrumental in starting Shippensburg Little League Softball and Midget Football and he was a longtime coach of many teams in many leagues and different sports such as Midget Basketball, Little League Baseball, Men’s Softball (Craig’s Bullshippers), and the local American Legion League. He was very well known and will be missed by many because of his extensive involvements and Joel found such joy in being surrounded by his grandchildren and being able to attend all of their various events.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Ethel H. “Mookie” Frelin; his daughter, Molly F. (Brady) Mowers of Fayetteville; his son, Tyler J. (Barbara) Frelin of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Zachary T. (Emily) Frelin and Karli D. Frelin both of Chambersburg and Kaitlyn N. (Zac) Blansit of Hawaii; two great grandchildren, Peyton Grace Blansit and Ryah Grace Frelin; two sisters, Darlene “Dee Dee” (George) Fisher of Shippensburg and Juanda Frelin of Montana; and many nieces and nephews.
