Joanna A. Shank Swartz, 79, of Maizefield Drive, Shippensburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born Monday, August 19, 1935 in Shippensburg, she was a daughter of the late Walter A. and Maye L. Shoap Shank.
Joanna was a 1954 graduate of the Shippensburg Senior High School. She was a member of the Roxbury United Methodist Church where she was Organist and Choir Director for over 40 years. Joanna was a former member of the First Court Chapter # 470 Eastern Star and a member of the Cumberland Valley Cedarettes. Music was her passion.
Surviving is one son, John W. (Marcy) Swartz II, two daughters, Teresa A. Keckler all of Shippensburg and Robin L. Swartz of Cincinnati, OH, one sister, Luella Pomeroy of Shippensburg, three granddaughters, Emily E. (Peter) Lathrop of Cincinnati, OH, Kelsey M. Keckler and Vanessa M. Swartz both of Shippensburg, two grandsons, Christopher J. (Amy) Hershey of Indianapolis, IN and Joshua M. (companion Chrissy Jenkins) Hershey of Gettysburg, five great grandchildren, Will, Nick, Rob, Katie Jo and Jackie, Son In-Law Scott Keckler and dearest friend Betty Jane Wyrick both of Shippensburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. “Bill” Swartz, who died December 1, 1999, one daughter, Christine Faye Swartz, who died in September 1952, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Roxbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Peter M. Beddia officiating. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held Wednesday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc.
