Joan Marie “Joanie” Brown, 47, of Newburg, died on the morning of Thursday, August 28, 2014, at her home.
She was born on December 22, 1966, in Bristol, PA, a daughter of the late Raymond P. Brown and Mary J. Palmer.
Joan had been employed as a Tax Preparer for Jackson Hewitt Tax Services. She was very active and involved in her church, the Green Spring Brethren in Christ Church, Newville. Joan was very artistic, designing the flower arrangements at the church; tended to the mini-farm at home, she loved animals; and also liked to go fishing when she had the time.
She is survived by her mother; her companion and father of her children, Philip W. Grow, Sr. of Baltimore; two children, Chrystal Brown of Newburg and Philip W. Grow, Jr., of Baltimore; granddaughter, Faith Nicole Aaron; three sisters, Grace Everetts of McConnellsburg, Michelle McCarthy of Pittsburgh, and Kathy Pearson of Centerville, MD; step-mother, Sharon Brown of Baltimore; three step-sisters, Anne Hooper of Mt. Union, Carol Palmer of Shade Gap, and Betty Palmer of Shade Gap; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Casner fo Orbisonia; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, Joan was preceded in death by her step-father, Walter E. Palmer; her paternal grandparents; and maternal grandfather.
Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the Green Spring Brethren in Christ Church, Newville. The Rev. Donald Logan will officiate. Interment will be private.
