Jesse Cree Stitt, 92 of Shippensburg, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born November 28, 1917 in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late Roy and Clara Chamberlin Stitt.
He was a member of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church. He remodeled most of the church and made a cross in front of the sanctuary which he was especially proud of.
Jesse was a retired self employed cabinet maker owning and operating Pleasant View Enterprises. He was a member of the Orrstown Lodge # 262 F. & A.M., Shippensburg Scottish Rite Club, Valley Forest # 145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, a past member of the Orrstown Lions Club, and a 1937 graduate of Shippensburg High School. Jesse was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Debra Stitt and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife Miriam Hopkins Stitt, a son Michael C. Stitt, Sr. and his wife Cynthia of Shippensburg, three grandchildren; Jeff Futscher of Fayetteville, Michael Stitt, Jr. of Fort Polk, LA, and Lia College of Newville, and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 5, 2010 in the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Derek Wadlington and The Rev. Kimberley Wadlington. A private burial will be held in the Middle Spring Cemetery. A viewing will be held Monday morning one hour prior to the services in church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, 135 Middle Spring Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
