Jeanne S. Gruver, 79, of Menno Village, Chambersburg, died Thursday, April 28, 2016 in the Walden Unit at Menno Haven.
She was born April 7, 1937 in Shippensburg, PA. Jeanne was a daughter of the late Howard W. and Vesta Heberlig Swartz.
Jeannie was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Chambersburg. She retired from the Chambersburg Area School District where she taught 8th grade English. Jeanne was a 1959 graduate of Millersville University where she earned her B.S. in English and a 1955 graduate of the former Shippensburg High School.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer J. Gruver, Jr., two children, E. James Gruver, III M.D. and his wife Kara of Boston, MA, and Heather S. Gruver and her husband Mark Cohen of Salem, OR, two grandsons, Alex J. Gruver of San Francisco, CA, and Nate V. Gruver of Boston, MA, one brother, Hubert Swartz of Chambersburg, and one sister, Carolyn Eckenrode of Chambersburg.
At the discretion of the family there will not be a public viewing or service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg Public Library, 73 West King Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
