Jeane R. Eschenmann, 95, of Shippensburg departed this life on the evening of Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
She was born in Shippensburg on February 1, 1925, the daughter of the late Luther M. and Sylvia M. (Sprecher) Rockwell. Jeane was a 1942 graduate of Shippensburg High School and also served as class secretary. She married Hayes R. Eschenmann on March 30, 1946. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2003.
Jeane was a homemaker throughout her life and also dealt in antiques for over twenty years. She was always very civic minded and as such held memberships in many different civic organizations. Over the years, Jeane was a member of the Kittochtinny Historical Society, Conococheague Institute, and Pennsylvania Federation of Women. She served as a past president of the Shippensburg Civic Club and Junior Civic Club and was a past president and life member of the Shippensburg Historical Society.
Jeane was also very involved at Shippensburg University and was bestowed as an Honorary Alumna and served as past president of the former Century Club. For their dedication and service, she along with her late husband Hayes, were honored with the Shippensburg University/Shippensburg Chamber of Commerce Common Ground Award in 1993.
In her leisure time Jeane enjoyed reading and following Shippensburg University athletic teams – The Lady Raider Basketball and the Raider Football teams. There is a scholarship in honor of Jeane and Dick benefitting the S.U. Lady Raider Basketball Team.
She is survived by two sons, H. Richard Eschenmann II and wife Cynthia of Palmyra and K. Kurt Eschenmann and wife Phyllis of Blacksburg, VA; four grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jeane was preceded in death by her brother Merton Rockwell.
Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. There will be a public memorial service to be planned at a future date and time. Interment will occur in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg University Foundation or the Jeane and Dick Eschenmann Lady Raiders Basketball Scholarship at 1871 Old Main Drive, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
