Jean M. Mackey

Upper Strasburg

Jean M. Mackey, 83, of Upper Strasburg, passed away the evening of Monday, April 14, 2025 at a family friend’s home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Thursday, August 21, 1941 in McConnellsburg, PA, Fulton County, a daughter of the late Abraham and Dessie Deavor Peck. She married Merle R. Mackey, Jr. on December 24, 1965.

Jean was a 1959 graduate of McConnellsburg Joint High and a 1960 graduate of Chambersburg Business School. She was the owner and operator of Mackey Bus Lines LLC for over 47 years. She was a dedicated, devoted member of the UP Church of God where she donated her time with transportation within the Bible Release Time program. She also taught Sunday School and enjoyed singing in the church choir. A selfless mother, Jean was presented the Mother of the Year award by the Living Miracles in the 1980’s.

Anyone who knew Jean, knew her as having a lighthearted, witty personality. She was a strong-willed, determined woman who was always recognized by wearing a hat on her head and a smile on her face. She loved camping, traveling the world, and in her younger years, sewing and crocheting.

In addition to her husband of 59 years, Merle R. Mackey, Jr. of Upper Strasburg, she is survived by five children, Tracy (Jeffrey) Metcalfe of Spring Run, Merle R. Mackey III of Fort Loudon, Stacy Rosenberry of Upper Strasburg, Casey (Craig) Baker of Upper Strasburg, and Laci (Reuben) Egolf of Greencastle; 11 grandchildren, Benjamin Metcalfe, Emily Metcalfe, Samuel Mackey, Alexis (Levi) Brady, Ashley (Ryan) Wagaman, Amy Rosenberry, Tanner Chamberlin, Shelby (Ean) Starr, Jedd Baker, Byron (Sarah) Egolf, and Taylor Egolf; 14 great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Robert (Bertha) Peck of Chambersburg, Marvin Peck of Fort Loudon, Richard (Thursa) Peck of Ebensburg, and Judith (George) Hardy of Fort Loudon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Eugene Peck; and one grandson, Max Yablonski.
