Jean E. (Snookie) Lay, 71, of Newville, passed away in the early hours of Friday, May 10, 2019 at Green Ridge Village, Newville.

Born Thursday, April 29, 1948 in Mechanicsburg, she was a daughter of the late David E. Shenk, Sr. and Betty L. Shatto Shenk.

Jean retired from Saylor’s Market in Newville, where she worked in the kitchen, with several years of service, and also worked as a seamstress at the former Newville Shoe Factory.
She was a full time baby sitter for her grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished, and will be sadly missed by them all.

Jean is survived by her husband of 12 + years, Henry Elwood Lay, whom she married October 28, 2006; one daughter, Rebecca Ann (Mark) Gipe, Carlisle; one son, Leroy A. (Amy) Stitt, Jr., Newburg; one step daughter, Danette J. Lay, Carlisle; one sister, Nancy (George) Gross, Liverpool; one brother, Theodore E. (Mary) Shenk, Sr., New Bloomfield; five grandchildren, Deandra L. DiMisa, David L. Stitt, Lauren R. Gipe, Ashlynn N. Gipe, and Dylan L. Stitt; one great granddaughter, Emma Jean DiMisa; three step grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, and Samuel; and one step great granddaughter, Aubrey, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, David E. Shenk, Jr. and Donna K. Zeigler.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with Pastor Wayne A. Good, and Pastor Richard Reese officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newville First Church of God, 475 Shippensburg Road, Newville, PA 17241.
