Jay Pyne

May 19, 1945 — April 4, 2018

Jay Lee Pyne, 72, of Newburg, departed this life, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer, on the morning of Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at his home, with his family by his side.

He was born on May 19, 1945, and raised on the family farm on Clover Hill Road, Newburg, a son of the late Charles and Mary King Pyne. Jay married Dorothy J. ‘Dottie” West on November 2, 1963, at the King Street U.B.C., Chambersburg.

After working on his family’s farm as a child, Jay became a bricklayer in his early years. He, along with his wife working side-by-side, built several of their home’s together. Later in life, Jay worked in maintenance for the PA Turnpike, at the Carlisle Interchange, for thirty-three years, retiring in 2013, at age 67.

Jay was always known as a very active man, so after “retiring” he enjoyed being a woodsman and started a firewood business that he ran from his home. You could also find him in the morning at many of the local area restaurants having breakfast with friends and strangers alike. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the family’s hunting cabin with everyone. Jay also enjoyed the many vacations to the Outer Banks with his entire family.

In addition to his wife of fifty-four years, Dottie; three sons, Jeffery L. (Christine) Pyne, Timothy J. (Yvonne) Pyne, and Jamie L. (Erica) Pyne, all of Newburg; eight grandchildren, Aaron, Brenna, Lauren, Hailey, Ryan, Luke, Justin, & Chelsea; four great grandchildren, Trey, Lilly, Westin, and Laila; six siblings, Catherine, Iva Jean, Donald, Janet, Fred, & John; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by four siblings, Charles, Robert, Betty, and Helen.

His funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m., on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Newburg. Pastor Susan Stewart will officiate. Interment will follow in the Otterbein Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Sunday at the church.

Memorial contributions are preferred and may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church at 15634 Paxton Run Road, Newburg, PA 17240.
