Jay S. Hoover, 79, of Newburg, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Wednesday, September 8, 1937 in Newburg, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Grace Shuman Hoover.
Jay was a 1955 graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High School. He retired as a self- employed Dairy Farmer. Jay was a member of the Newburg United Methodist Church.
He was a life member of the Newburg-Hopewell Volunteer Fire Company and he was an avid hunter who was a member of Camp Gnat.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Goshorn Hoover, one son; Edgar J. “Ed” (wife Ruth) Hoover, Newburg, two daughters, Lucy V. (husband Donald, Jr.) Hart, Newburg, Ruby L. (husband Keith) Ile, Enola, three brothers; William Hoover, Newburg, Alan Hoover, Chambersburg and Ned Hoover of Newville; two sisters, Nancy Alexander and Kathryn Lauver both of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Holly Sites, Ashley Holtry, Nathaniel and Timothy Hart; four great grandchildren, Laine, Austyn and Heath Holtry and Kassidy Sites; two step granddaughters, Megan and Whitney Hart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Philip and Rodney Hoover.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve P. Salisbury officiating. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery. A viewing will be held Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium and one hour prior to the service on Monday in the church.
