Jay E. Gettel, 88, of Shippensburg, died Saturday, December 10, 2016 at his home.
Born May 8, 1928 in Shippensburg, Franklin County, he was a son of the late Walter W. and Amanda Wenger Gettel.
Jay was a member of the Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church. He owned and operated his family farm, he worked as a truck driver and was a creative entrepreneur. Jay was a member of the Young Farmers Association and the Christian Businesses Association.
Survivors include eight children, Dale Gettel, Janet Michael, Kenneth Gettel, Arleen Rhoads, Fred Gettel, Dana Gettel, Judy Stine and Roger Gettel, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Erma M. Alleman Gettel who died September 19, 2016, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church with the Rev. Dr. Charles Naylor and Rev. Leroy Eberly officiating. Burial will be in the Air Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday in the church.
