Jay C. Chamberlin, 98, of Palmyra, and formerly of Shippensburg, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025 at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Born Monday, October 18, 1926 in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Bernard W. and Anna Pearl Wingerd Chamberlin.

He was a graduate of Shippensburg High School and attended the Shippensburg State Teachers College. Jay was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church and attended the Palmyra First United Methodist Church.

Jay served as a Signalman 3rd Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223 and the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, both in Shippensburg.

Jay had a long distinguished career at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring as an Electronics and Production Control Supervisor.

Jay served the town of Shippensburg for 30 years as a member of the Township zoning hearing board.

In his later years, Jay was one of the founding members of the Penn State Hershey Bladder Cancer Support Group, serving on its Executive Committee. He also volunteered at the Hershey Gardens until his 96th year, planting flowers, weeding, and providing other gardening support.

Known as a talented Saxophonist and musician, Jay was a member of the Shippensburg High School and Town Bands, and performed for many years throughout the region in dance and jazz bands.

Jay is survived by one daughter, Nancy E. Opilo and son-in-law Matthew, Palmyra; one granddaughter, Kaitlin E. Zdilla and husband Daniel, Lancaster; and one great granddaughter, Cecilia J. Zdilla, Lancaster.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Stine Chamberlin, who passed away July 25, 2010, and his sister Helen Marie Hinkle.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc. Remembrance Chapel, with Pastor James Anderman officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, with Military Honors conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 Minuteman. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Penn State Bladder Cancer Support Group, 500 University Drive, Hershey, PA 17033.
