Janice Porter

April 7, 1934 — January 26, 2017

Janice Mary Porter, 82, a resident of the Orrstown Personal Care Home, departed this life on the afternoon of Thursday, January 26, 2017.

She was born on April 7, 1934, in Montsera, Cumberland County, PA, the daughter of the late Richard D. and Margaret Rice Davis. She was a 1951 graduate of Carlisle High School and married Jack E. Porter on August 1, 1952 in the Prince Street United Brethren Church.

Janice was employed at Shippensburg University for fifteen years, retiring as a Purchasing Clerk in 2000. Earlier in life she also worked at the Beistle Co., SKF, and Peoples Bank, all of Shippensburg.

She was a longtime member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church. Janice enjoyed traveling to Williamsburg, VA and Myrtle Beach, SC, reading, Pennsylvania Dutch Tole painting, and chocolate.

In addition to her husband of sixty-four years, Jack, she is survived by her daughter, Susan L. (Randall) Shroyer of Newville; two grandsons, Eric W. (Jan) Jones and Scott M. (Tammy) Shroyer, both of Shippensburg; four great grandchildren, Erica L. Jones, Amanda C. Schuster, Danielle Strakonski, and Brady Jones, all of Shippensburg; and numerous great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Davis.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Prince Street United Brethren Church. The Rev. James O. Bolich will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday morning at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prince Street United Brethren Church (office) at 17 N. Penn St. Shippensburg, PA 17257 or the Alzheimers Association at 2595 Interstater Drive Suite #100 Harrisburg, PA 17110.
