Janet Hollar Zullinger

Janet Hollar Zullinger, 93, a resident of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, died on Friday, November 25, 2011, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born on August 16, 1918, in Chambersburg, the daughter of the late Averill and Bertha Rickart Hollar. Janet was a 1936 graduate of Chambersburg High School and a 1940 graduate of the Shippensburg State Teachers College. She then started her teaching career at the Pigeon Hill one room schoolhouse in Quincy Township, from 1940 until 1943, and from 1943 until her retirement in 1978, she taught Elementary School for the Shippensburg Area School District.
On April 3, 1942, Janet married Mr. James W. Zullinger in Chambersburg. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2001.
Janet was a member of the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church, Shippensburg’s Historical Society and Civic Club, the Cumberland County Retired Teachers Association, the Chambersburg Hospital Auxilary, and the Falling Spring AARP Chapter #2840.
She is survived by her son, Joel R. (Sandra) Zullinger of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Nathan Zullinger of Providence, RI and Jessica Zullinger of Washington D.C.; and one brother, Robert M. (Peg) Hollar of Chambersburg.
Her memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at the Menno Haven Chapel. Chaplin Robert Keener and Rev. Michael Miller will officiate. Private interment will precede her memorial service, in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. There will be no public viewing, however, a visitation will immediately follow her memorial service at Menno Haven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg University Foundation for the Janet Hollar Zullinger Scholarship at 1871 Old Main Drive Shippensburg, PA 17257.
