Janet Ommert

Janet L. Ommert, 91, of Newburg, passed away the morning of Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Green Ridge Village.

She was born on Monday, February 15, 1932 in Shippensburg, Franklin County, the daughter of the late John W. and Vesta C. (Shuman) Butts. She married Teddy R. Ommert on November 11, 1978.

Janet was 1949 graduate of the Shippensburg High School and a longtime member of the Green Spring First Church of God, where she was active in their Sunshine Workers Sunday School Class. She enjoyed decorating the interior of her home and was a skilled embroiderer of quilts, aprons, and table runners. Janet was an excellent cook, who enjoyed collecting cookbooks. She had a love for animals, especially spoiling her many cats and dogs over the years. Above all else, Janet was a faithful and loving wife to her husband, Teddy.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Teddy R. Ommert of Newburg; one brother-in-law, John Ommert of Chambersburg; one sister-in-law, Mary Ommert Perry of Shippensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy M. Stevens; and one brother-in-law, Wayne H. Ommert.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Spring First Church of God, Newville. Pastor Philip Steele will officiate. Burial will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
