Janet L. Johnston, 85, of Shippensburg died Monday, Nov 23, 2020 surrounded by family after courageously battling cancer.
She was born March 14, 1935 in Shippensburg, the daughter of the late William L. and Mary F. Hunsecker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother William Hunsecker, two sisters Marie Killian and Doris Friese, and a grandson, Peter Landis.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Walter C. Johnston, Shippensburg; children, Steven L. Johnston (wife Christine) of Shippensburg, GayNell Lerew (husband Richard) of Greensburg, Pamela M. Burns (husband Thomas) of Hydes, MD, and Elizabeth A. Hollar (husband Jason) of York; eight grandchildren: Amanda, Stephanie, Jenna, Alyssa, Emily, Alexander, Kyra and Rachael, and nine great grandchildren, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
Janet was a 1953 graduate of Shippensburg Area Senior High School. She spoke fondly of her days as a server at Howard Johnson’s restaurant, and as a telephone operator and accounting clerk at Letterkenny Army Depot.
Janet was also an avid cook, reader, gardener and artist. She loved playing games, traveling and most of all, spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered for her laughter, generosity, and unconditional love.
A Private Family Service will be held at a future date.
