Jane Rigdon Pledger, 80, a resident at Penn Hall, died Monday, February 21, 2011 in her home at Penn Hall.
Born June 16, 1930 in Elmira, NY, she was the daughter of the late Carl Emory and Helen Hicks Rigdon.
Jane was a 1948 graduate of the Elmira Free Academy, Elmira, NY, attended Cortland State Teachers College, Cortland, NY and a 1978 graduate of the Shippensburg University with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She retired in 1988 from the Head Start Nursery School Program in Newburg, as a Nursery School teacher after ten years of service.
She was a member of the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where she was very active in the women's groups and was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Civic Club all in Shippensburg. She and her husband were avid world travelers and Penn State fans, she loved reading, playing bridge, golf, collecting shells and needle point.
Jane was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Surviving is one son; Walter E. Pledger and his wife Regan, Adamstown, Pa., two daughters; Victoria P. Krenitsky and her husband Thomas, Chambersburg, Pa., and Linda S. Lowery and her husband Joseph, State College, Pa., five grandsons; Thomas D. Krenitsky, Andrew J. Lowery, Scott D. Krenitsky, Carl and Matthew R. Pledger and six great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter R. Pledger who died July 27, 2007
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the St. Andrews Episcopal Church with the Rev. Christine F. Purcell officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held immediately following the service in the church.
