Jana Gayle Burdge, 65, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Friday, August 20, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born on April 24, 1956, in Carrollton, MO, a daughter of the late Norman and Frances (Bowles) Rose.
Jana started her work-life as a teacher at the Shippensburg area Head Start program. She then went on to have a thirty year career working at the Pennsylvania Department of Health, retiring in 2016 as a Bureau Director. After retiring, Jana returned to teaching, this time as a substitute teacher for several different area school districts.
In her free time Jana enjoyed shopping with her daughters, reading, and just simply spending time with all of her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a huge fan of Penn State football, spending her Saturday’s in Happy Valley tailgating and attending games. Due to her teaching background, Jana was always so good with children. She was a longtime member of the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder of Session and Sunday School Teacher over the years.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Myers, whom she married on March 2, 2019; two daughters, Carrie C. (Burdge) Eaton and husband Braden of Willow Hill and Allison E. (Burdge) Zorich and husband James of Marysville; two step-daughters, Tiffany A. (Myers) Crum and husband David of York and Abbie N. (Myers) Mortorff and husband Jeremy of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren, Hudson Rose Eaton, Ryan Claire Zorich, Bailey Rose Mortorff, Kade Nathaniel Mortorff, and Everett Thomas Mortorff; “her girls”, Emily and Brooke Gavlak; one brother, Robert Rose and wife Beverly of Kingsville, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jana was preceded in death by her first husband of forty years, Glenn E. Burdge, who died on February 28, 2016; one brother, William Rose; and her sister, Martha Burns.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Michael K. Miller will officiate. Viewing will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, at the church. Jana will be laid to rest during a private ceremony at the Spring Hill Cemetery.
