James Reed

James F. ‘Buck” Reed, Jr., 93, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Elmcroft of Shippensburg.

He was born June 24, 1924, in Shippensburg, a son of the late James F. and Lottie V. Eyer Reed, Sr. Buck was a 1943 graduate of Shippensburg High School and shortly thereafter was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Force on July 1, 1943 and honorably discharged on January 17, 1946, serving in the Pacific Theatre of W.W. II. He married Janet L. Wingerd on August 6, 1950 in the Messiah United Methodist Church.

Buck worked as a clerk at the former S.K.F. Industries, Shippensburg, for over thirty years, retiring in 1986. He was a long-time member of the Messiah United Methodist Church and a life member of both the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, and the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168, all of Shippensburg. In his leisure time Buck liked to play golf with his friends.

In addition to his wife of sixty-seven years, Janet, he is survived by his son, Doug (Beth) Reed of Jacksonville, NC; two granddaughters, Amanda (David) Sebastiani of Oxford, PA and Abby Reed of Jacksonville, NC; two great grandchildren, Emma and Anthony Sebastiani, both of Oxford, PA; his brother, Dale (Portia) Reed of Pleasant Hall, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Steven M. Livermore and the Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton will officiate. Interment, with military honors conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah United Methodist Church at 30 South Penn Street Shippensburg, PA 17257.
