James W. Miller, 83, of Walnut Bottom, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012 in the Life Care Hospital, Mechanicsburg.
Born Thursday, July 11, 1929 in Mechanicsburg, he was a son of the late Joseph A. and Dorothy Snoderly Miller.
James was a United States Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict and then enlisted in the Army Reserves from 1954 until 1977.
He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in 1985 after 35 years of services as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic.
After retirement, he worked for Weis Markets for 10 years.
James was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Walnut Bottom. He was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Durff- Kuhn VFW Post # 6168 both in Shippensburg, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1299, Carlisle, Walnut Bottom Rod & Gun Club where he was Secretary for 44 years, Cumberland Star Lodge # 197 F. & A.M. and the Harrisburg Consistory.
James had a real love for his family and friends and life in general.
Surviving are one son, Stephen L. Miller, one daughter, Karen Miller Hudson and her husband Daniel, one brother, Daniel W. Miller, one sister, Judith Everetts, and one granddaughter, Nicole Grant.
In addition to his parents, he will be joining in Heaven, his wife Ruth I. Weary Miller who died March 31, 2011, a grandson, Phillip L. Miller, four sisters, Constance Hockley, Frances Gross, Dorothy Robinson and Rosalie Miller and a step sister Elizabeth.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 19, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church, 118 West Main St., Walnut Bottom, with Pastor Barbara A. Servello officiating. Burial will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, at 2:00 p.m. with the Shippensburg Veterans Council conducting Military Honors. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.
