James Leitzel

August 7, 1957 — December 29, 2022

James E. (Jim) Leitzel, 65, of Carlisle, passed away on December 29th, 2022 at his home.

At Jim’s request, private funeral services and interment next to his father will take place at Zion United Church of Christ. Arrangements are by Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc.

Jim was born August 7th, 1957 in Newburg, PA. to Charles and Janet Leitzel. He graduated from Shippensburg High and Franklin County Vo-Tech. He never married, remaining a sworn bachelor his entire life. He just recently retired, having worked as a mechanic for the Carlisle Borough for the majority of his career and later for DHL. He served as a Tracked Vehicle Mechanic in the US. Army where he achieved the rank of Specialist 4, was an Expert with the M16 rifle, and was awarded the Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service during his duty in Germany from 1977 to 1979. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. One of his favorite hobbies was wandering the woods hunting mushrooms. He was a member of numerous clubs and organizations in both Shippensburg and Carlisle.

Jim is preceded in death by his father Charles Leitzel (2002).

Jim is survived by his mother Janet Leitzel of Newburg, sister Susan and her husband Roy Dunlap of Newburg, sister Chris and her husband Fred Stouffer of Roxbury, brother Dennis (Jake) and his wife Shelly of Delaware, Ohio, and brother Mike and his wife Ella of Shippensburg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many, many good friends.
