James T. Johnson, Sr., 80, of Shippensburg, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, December 23, 2017.
Born Saturday, January 30, 1937, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Axel T. and Irene C. Behringer Johnson.
James graduated from the Archbishop Carroll Catholic High School. He was a United States Army Veteran.
He retired from Goddard Space Flight in Greenbelt, MD as a Computer Specialist after 30 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Shippensburg Council #12551.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gertrude A. Bemis Johnson, one son, James T. “Ted” Johnson, Jr, Glen Burnie, MD, two daughters, Susan I. (husband Pete) Clanton, Gainesville, VA, and Mary E. (husband Lonnie) Cooper, Shippensburg, two grandsons, Michael Akey, Albany, OR, and Steven Johnson, Glen Burnie, MD, and one granddaughter, Sara Cooper, Shippensburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church in Shippensburg with Father Dwight Schlaline as Celebrant. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.
