James Phifer Ferrell, 95, a resident of the Orrstown Personal Care Home, departed this life on the morning of Sunday, January 22, 2017.
He was born on September 22, 1921, in Claypool, VA, a son of the late O and Neva Altizer Ferrell.
James retired from the Letterkenny Army Depot retiring as a mechanic. He was a lifetime member of the Orrstown Sportsmen Association and the Shippensburg Fish and Game. James was an avid hunter of any type of game or season and enjoyed hunting with dogs. If he wasn’t at work, you could be sure that James was either hunting or at least thinking about and/or preparing to do some type of hunting. In his younger years, he was also involved in coaching various local youth athletic teams.
He is survived by three sons, Charles (Diana) Ferrell of Chambersburg, Larry Ferrell of Spring Run, and James Ferrell of Chambersburg; son-in-law, Samuel Hancock of Orrstown; two grandchildren, Michael (Yong) Hancock of Charlotte, NC and Kimberly Ferrell of Spring Run; five great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; two brothers, Fulton Ferrell of VA and Harry Ferrell of CA; one sister, Rose Blatenberger of Mongul; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and spouse, Margaret Franks Ferrell, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Hancock, and several brothers and sisters.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 27, 2017, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Charles Naylor will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
