Jack Eugene Hockenberry, of Shippensburg, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.
Born Thursday, July 29, 1943 in Cleversburg, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late John F. and Violet M. Lynch Hockenberry.
Jack was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church in Shippensburg.
He was a 1961 graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High School, where he was inducted into the Class of 2017 Athletic Hall of Fame. During Jack’s senior year of playing football, he rushed for 1172 yards, scored 135 points, and recorded 21 touchdowns. He also made First Team All-Conference, with three Consecutive Team Titles.
Jack was a member of the Hub City Club, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Minnequa Social Club, and the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168, all in Shippensburg. He loved golfing, gardening, yardwork, playing cards, and was a very avid sports fan.
He loved and cherished his family and friends.
Jack is survived by one son, John T. Hockenberry; one granddaughter, Nicole M. Zabrucky; one grandson, Sean A. Zabrucky; two great granddaughters, Alyza and Payton; one brother, Larry D. (wife Sharon) Hockenberry, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Kay Hershey Hockenberry who passed away May 5, 2020; and one brother, Ronald (Tater) Hockenberry.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 1, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with Pastor John W. Shadle officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Sunday, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday, in the funeral home.
