Jack E. Goodhart, 86, of Chambersburg, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Pinnacle Health, West Shore.
Born July 23, 1930 in Shippensburg, PA, Jack was a son of the late Carl E. and Dorothy I. Zullinger Goodhart.
Jack retired in 1992 as a Fifth Grade Teacher at Coldbrook Elementary School, Chambersburg. After retiring, Jack was a courier for the Chambersburg Hospital for over 10 years.
He was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church, Chambersburg where he served for over 25 years as a Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. Jack also was a Head Usher and served on the Nurture Committee and Administrative Board. He was a 1948 graduate of the former Shippensburg High School. Jack was a 1958 graduate of Shippensburg University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and in 1964 he earned a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. He was a life member of both the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Shippensburg and the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post # 1599, Chambersburg. Jack was a member of PSEA, NEA and the PA Association of School Retirees. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Duane E. Goodhart.
Jack is survived by his wife, Dolores K. Franciscus Goodhart, one son Gregory J. (husband of Lisa) Goodhart of Thurmont, MD, one grandson, John Matthew (husband of Mandy) Goodhart and one great granddaughter, Ada Grace Goodhart of Bartlett, TN.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 in the Park Avenue United Methodist Church, Chambersburg at 3 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Rachel Keller Wong. A private burial will be held in the Norland Cemetery. Fellowship and visitation will follow the services at the church.
