J. Leroy Bert, 84, of Newburg, went to be in the arms of his Heavenly Father on the morning of Monday, December 1, 2014.
He was born on May 19, 1930, in Newburg, a son of the late Laban and Leah Musser Bert. Leroy married Dorothy Oldham on August 22, 1953, in Bedford County.
Leroy was a life-long farmer. He also enjoyed transporting folks in the local Amish community. He was a member of the Mowersville Brethren in Christ Church for his entire life and was extremely active within the church. Leroy was also a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Gideons International, and the Franklin County Sunday School Association. He really enjoyed spending lots of time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy; two sons, Ernie (Ann) Bert, Sr. of Chambersburg and Stan (Sue) Bert of Mechanicsburg; three daughters, Kim (Tom) Law of California, Joetta Bert Shetter of Shippensburg, and Christine (Peter) Arnold of Mechanicsburg; thirteen grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry and Monroe Bert.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, December 5, 2014, at the Mowersville Brethren in Christ Church, Newburg. Reverend David Halteman and Reverend David Arnold will officiate. Interment will follow in the Air Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to the service on Friday, at the Mowersville church.
