Isaac W. “Ike” Horst, 73, of Chambersburg, passed away the evening of Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at his home.
He was born on Saturday, January 13, 1951 in Chambersburg, a son of the late Walter K. and A. Harriette Bikle Horst.
Ike was a 1968 graduate of the Shippensburg Senior High School and attended Memorial Lutheran Church. He was a United States Marines Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. While serving, he was a pistol coach at Quantico. Ike enjoyed hunting and was a 5th generation fruit grower; owning and operating Horst Orchard in Orrstown, PA for 45 years.
Ike was a member of the Orrstown Lodge #262 F & A.M., Dry Run American Legion #232, Durff-Kuhn VFW #6168, Landis-McCleaf Marine Corps League, and past member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest #145. He was also the past president of the Franklin County Horticultural Society and member of the Valley of Harrisburg Consistory, Sons of the American Revolution, and Patriotic Order Sons of America Orrstown Camp #645.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances E. “Fran” Justice Horst; three children, Justin “Gus” Horst of Shippensburg, Becky (Mike) Horst Bedell of Sharpsburg, GA, and Bradford (Kourtney) Horst of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Palmer, Michaela, and Hayden Horst; and three siblings, Robert B. (Linda) Horst of Ocean Pines, MD, Mathilda Horst of Florida, and Maryann (Mike) Naugle of Fayetteville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Philip R. Horst.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Godfred Effisah officiating. Military honors conducted by the Minutemen of the American Legion Post #223 will immediately follow the service at the funeral home. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Masonic services being conducted at 7:45 p.m. by the Orrstown Lodge #262 F & A.M. There will also be a viewing one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday. Ike will be privately laid to rest in the Pleasant Hall Cemetery.
