Ira F. Foust, Jr., 98, of Chambersburg, departed this life on the morning of Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Menno Haven - Chambers Pointe.
He was born on November 15, 1925, in Chambersburg, a son of the late Ira F. and Emma G. (Wenger) Foust, Sr. Ira was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, inducted on January 18, 1944 and honorably discharged on April 11, 1946. Shortly thereafter he married Grace M. Jones on June 14, 1946, in Chambersburg.
Ira worked at the Letterkenny Army Depot as a parts expediter, retiring in November of 1980. After retiring from Letterkenny, Ira drove school bus for the former Lee McBeth and Sons, Inc., for twenty years.
Ira was a longtime member of the King Street United Brethren Church and its Burton Men’s Sunday School Class. He was known for having a bicycle shop that was more a hobby than a vocation, where he would buy bicycles at sales, etc., repair them, and ultimately sell them, which basically self-funded his hobby. It was something he did not to profit, but just simply because he enjoyed doing it. Ira and his wife Grace enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida to visit the orange groves and also to Gatlinburg, TN. Being able to spend time with his family was always a very important and cherished part of Ira’s life.
In addition to his wife of seventy seven years, Grace, he is survived by a son, Richard E. Foust and wife Carolyn of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, James Foust of Asheville, NC, Joseph Foust of Mechanicsburg, Tabitha Foust of Gloucester, VA, Nichole Short of Shippensburg, and Stephanie Foust of Shippensburg; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ira was preceded in death by a son, Randy G. Foust; and thirteen siblings, of which he was the last surviving.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Private interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home.
