Ida Showaker

Ida L. Showaker, 94, of Newville, departed this life on the morning of Friday, July 10, 2020, at her home.
She was born on December 25, 1925, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Ezra and Frances (Killinger) Karper. Ida married Leroy “Ted” E. Showaker on October 28, 1944. He preceded her in death on October 11, 1999.
Ida was a farmer’s wife and homemaker throughout her life. She enjoyed ceramics, swimming with her friends at Cumberland Crossings in Carlisle, and attending events at the Luhrs Center. Ida will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother, who was very dedicated in helping care for and looking after all of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Edgar L. Showaker of Newville; four daughters, Barbara D. Egolf of Shippensburg, Doris J. Showaker of Shippensburg, Deborah K. Felix and husband Bennett of Newville, and Cynthia L. Ott and husband Dennis of Newville; five grandchildren, Stacy L. Miles and husband Duane of Addison, NY, Bradley L. Varner and wife Mollie of Newville, Brian E. Varner and wife Robin of Goldsboro, NC, Miranda S. Fisher of Shippensburg, and Madison S. Fisher of Newville; five great grandchildren, Erica N. Kirby, Tyler W. Kirby, Erynn M. Varner, Nathann B.L. Varner, and Noah G. Varner; two great great grandchildren, Ryker C. McDowell and Oaklin C. McDowell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ida was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Rev. Lester M. Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be two hours prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Those in attendance are asked to observe the recommendations pertaining to reducing the potential spread of Covid-19; wearing masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing as much as is possible.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friendship Hose Company No. 47 or SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice.
