Herbert R. Cassidy, age 71 of Shippensburg, passed away Saturday October 16, 2021 at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, due to complications of Covid-19.

He was born on June 17, 1950 in Altoona, PA. Herbert was a son of the late Herbert R. and Shirley M. (Ulsh) Cassidy.

Herb retired from Century Link after 45 years as a communication specialist. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ. He attended Shippensburg schools and was a 1968 graduate.

He was very active in his community giving back in many ways. He served as a board of director for the Shippensburg Area School District for 16 years and was a past school board president. He also was a member of the Shippensburg Community Fair Board and was in charge of the indoor exhibits for many years. Herb was a life member of West End Fire and Rescue, where he served as Captain from 1975 to 1976, Assistant Chief from 1976 to 1977, and Fire Chief from 1977 to 1978. He played an instrumental role in the purchase of West End’s first rescue tool in 1977. Herb also coached Shippensburg Midget Football and Shippensburg Little League Softball. Herb enjoyed traveling, especially to Jamaica, drinking coffee with his friends, grilling on the Green Egg with Charlie, and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and helping others. He took great pride in being called Pap.

Herb is survived by his wife of 51 ½ years, Gloria J. (Rotz) Cassidy, daughters Tonya Funk and her husband, Charles, and Lori Rauber and her husband, Michael, all of Shippensburg; grandchildren Cassidy Funk, Aaron Rauber, Carter Funk, and Jacob Rauber, and sister-in-law, Julie Cassidy of Newville.
