Helen Watson

Helen M. Watson, 86, of Shippensburg, died Friday, July 18, 2014 at home.

She was born March 15, 1928 in Shippensburg, Cumberland County. Helen was a daughter of the late William Mont and Martha Keefer Witter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John D. Watson who died January 27, 1994, a son, John E. Watson who died November 3, 2012, six brothers and three sisters.

Helen retired from the A&P Grocery Store in Shippensburg where she was a cashier for over 18 years. She enjoyed quilting, cross stitching, reading, playing bingo and cards. Helen was a 1946 graduate of the Shippensburg High School.

She was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church in Shippensburg and their quilting club. Helen was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, the Golden Age Club, and the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168 all in Shippensburg. Helen was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 842 in Chambersburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Deborah E. Hile and her husband Barry of Chambersburg, two sons, Timothy S. Watson and his wife Annie of New Brighton, and Michael A. Watson and his companion Wanda Batzel of Altoona, one brother, David Witter of Minot, ND, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 in the Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg at 10 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Steven M. Livermore, and The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A Viewing will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg and one hour prior to the services in church Saturday morning.
