Helen Schaeffer

Helen May Schaeffer, 85, of Newburg, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at the Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born Tuesday, March 19, 1935 in Shippensburg, PA. Helen was a daughter of the late Charles and Edith (Holtry) Wright.

Helen had a passion for helping anyone who needed it, which set the path to caring for many in her personal care homes for 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Richard L. Schaeffer who passed away February 12, 2010. A son, Kevin E. Schaeffer and two brothers, Norman and Gary Wright are also deceased.

Helen is survived by a son, Richard L. Schaeffer, Jr. and his wife, Debra of Shippensburg’ three grandchildren, Kevin Schaeffer, Jr., Danielle Leedy and Meghan Wiggins; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; four brothers, Charles Wright, George Wright and his wife Barbara, and Dean Wright and his wife Carol, all of Newburg and David Wright of Shippensburg; four sisters, Curvy Duncan and her husband Kenneth of Newburg, Thelma Holtry and her husband Eber of Newville, Judy Mason and her husband Paul of Shippensburg, and Sandy Moffat and her husband Steve of Fayetteville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 10, 2020 at 11 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg. Officiating will be Pastor Dale A. Detweiler. Burial will be in the Ridge Cemetery. A viewing will be held Monday morning one hour prior to the services. Those in attendance are asked to observe the recommendations pertaining to reducing the potential spread of Covid-19; wearing masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing as much as is possible.
