Helen G. Morrow, 88, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at home in Littleton, North Carolina.
She was born March 29, 1925 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Helen was the daughter of the late James W. and Barbara Ruth Gettel. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Boyd G. Morrow.
Helen lived the first 86 years of her life in Pennsylvania (Shippensburg area) and then moved to North Carolina. After growing up on her parent’s farm, Helen worked at the Stanley Company and then H.J. Heinz. She met and married Boyd G. Morrow and together they raised five children on their farm in Newburg, Pennsylvania. Helen dedicated her life to her family and to helping others. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and taking care of her family. She was a caregiver in their home for family members over 25 years. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Willing Workers’ Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. In July 2012 she moved to North Carolina to live with her daughter and son-in-law on Lake Gaston. She enjoyed relaxing on the dock and taking boat rides.
Helen is survived by her five children and their spouses, Ruth and Frank Coldsmith of Shippensburg, Janet and J. Keith Hocker of Carlisle, Gawin and Sue Morrow of Newburg, Joyce Morrow and Jay Koepf of Littleton, North Carolina, and Dale and Lisa Morrow of Shippensburg; three sisters, Margaret McGee of Spring Run, Edna Worthington of Newville, Norma Jean Orner of Wellsville, and one brother, Crist Gettel of Chambersburg; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Martha and Mildred Gettel (infant twins), Alice Doyle, and Barbara Adams, two brothers, Harold and Ralph Gettel, and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Newburg at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Wayne Heberlig. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery. The viewing will be Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg and one hour prior to the services in church.
