Helen Maxine Johnston, 88, a resident of Conestoga View, Lancaster, formerly of Shippensburg, passed away Sunday June 5, 2016 in the home.
She was born May 17, 1928 in Chambersburg, PA. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur D. and Helen J. Harris Naugle.
She was a member of the Shippensburg First Church of God and was active in the Church Choir, Young at Heart Choir and was a Sunday School Teacher. Maxine retired from the Stanley Company in Chambersburg and worked in Food Service at the Shippensburg Area Senior School. She was a member of the Fort Morris Chapter #3324 AARP, Shippensburg.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Melvin W. Johnston who passed away May 23, 2008. One daughter, Nancy I. Nenninger, one brother, Dick Naugle, and three sisters, Wilda Parker, Carolyn Strine, and Jody Grigley are also deceased.
Maxine is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. (Jay) Lehman of Newville, and Teresa M. (Ken) Nitchman of Lancaster, a son in law, Barry Nenninger of Chambersburg, 10 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and one sister, Faye Ordway of Norristown.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 10, 2016 in the Shippensburg First Church of God at 2 p.m. with Pastor William Myers officiating. Burial will be held in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday one hour prior to the services in the church.
