Helen Ann Hockenberry, 66, of Shippensburg, got called to come home to her Lord and Savior on the afternoon of Sunday, July 31, 2016, as she was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on February 5, 1950, in Chambersburg, a daughter of the late Harry C. and Nellie C. Strayer Hockenberry and was a 1968 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School.
Helen worked at the former Hoffman Mills until its closure and for the past eleven years as a Production Specialist at Schreiber Foods, where she made some amazing friends who she thought the world of.
She was a member of the American Legion Post #223, Minnequa Social Club #375, AARP, and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW #6168, all of Shippensburg. Helen was an amazing mother, mother-in-law, grandma, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. Her pride and joy was watching her kids and grandkids play sports. She never missed a game and was the loudest cheerleader in the stands. Helen was a hard worker and was known to work circles around people half her age, she was the life of the party, and a hell of a dancer. She loved shopping, made a mean sloppy joe and was well known to speak her opinion and tell it like it is, but most of all her grandkids made her proud and meant everything to her.
She is survived by her significant other of twenty years and as she would put it “pain in the ass but love of her life”, Gary Mixell of Shippensburg; her son, Glenn (Shelly) Heckman of Apple Valley, CA; her daughter, Janell (Wayne) Miller of Shippensburg; seven amazing grandchildren that she loved with every piece of her heart, Kylee (Jean Torres) Miller, Paige Miller, Corrine Miller, Athan "ATM" Miller, Hunter Heckman, Autumn Heckman, and Thaddeus Heckman; four brothers, Garry (Patricia) Hockenberry, Galen (Virginia) Hockenberry, Donald Hockenberry, and Freddy (Brenda) Hockenberry; four sisters, Hazel (Chet) Garman, Esther Failor, Jeannette Adams, and Linda Varner.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Interment will follow in the Cleversburg Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
