Hazel Louise Handshew, 81, of Newville, died on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at her son’s home.
She was born on August 6, 1933, in Mainsville, a daughter of the late Paris and Edna Kriner Devor, but was raised by the late Floyd and Gladys Rowe. She married William Handshew on April 7, 1962 in Ft. Loudon, PA.
Hazel was a homemaker throughout her life. In her younger years, she was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir at the Palmstown Church. She liked to play bingo and spent most of her time taking care of her family.
She is survived by her husband William; one son, David (Margaret) Handshew of Newville; one daughter, Naomi (Jimmy) Wickard of Camarillo, CA; thirteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by one son, Frank Ridley, Jr.; three daughters, Jane Middaugh, Catherine Savage, and Mary Handshew; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers, Orlando, John, and George Devor; and one sister, Catherine Green.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 18, 2015, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Mr. Mark S. Fetterman will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
