Harry L. Hammond

Harry L. Hammond, 79, of Lurgan, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 21, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Born Friday, April 27, 1945 in Fannettsburg, he was a son of the late Fred Samuel Hammond and Virginia M. Boggs Hammond Barrick.

Harry retired from the International Brother Hood of Electrical Workers (IBW) in Harrisburg. He was a member of the Lurgan United Brethren Church.

He was a member of the LSL Sportsman Association; the Patriotic Sons of America; and the IBW Local #143.

Harry was a micro sprint car owner and enjoyed going to the races. He was an avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunting using mules; fishing, gardening, pig roasts and chicken BBQ’s. Harry loved all animals.

He was a Jack of all Trades, and would help anyone in need. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

Harry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Kaye Alleman Hammond, who he married January 29, 1967 of Lurgan; one daughter, Sherri Lynn Hammond-Esh, and husband, David of Lurgan; one brother, Robert “Tinker” Hammond, Amberson; one sister, Kimberly (Amos) Neil, Fannettsburg; and one nephew, Todd Neil, Fannettsburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father, James Barrick.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lurgan United Brethren Church, with Pastor Art Page, Pastor Ed Calhoun, and Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil officiating. Burial will be in Lurgan Cemetery. A viewing will be held Wednesday, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lurgan United Brethren Church, 7607 Roxbury Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257 or to the Cumberland Valley Amimal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road W., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
