Harrison Perry

Harrison I. Perry, 97, a resident of Paramount Senior Living, Maytown, Lancaster County, formerly of Shippensburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Thursday, September 14, 2023.

He was born on May 22, 1926, in Tobyhanna, PA, the son of the late Harrison and Mary (Weiss) Perry. Harrison married Clara A. Beidel on May 1, 1954, in Carlisle. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2022.

Harrison retired from the United States Army as a sergeant first class, inducted on October 19, 1944 and honorably discharged on June 30, 1969. He had a twenty-two year career serving as a military policeman through World War II, the Korean, and Vietnam Wars. After his military service, Harrison worked as a police officer at Shippensburg University for seventeen years, retiring in 1987.

He was a former member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church, Shippensburg. In his free time Harrison enjoyed bicycling and gardening, however his main interest was woodworking. Over the years he became well known for his generosity, building toys and donating bicycles, to the Neighborhood Center of the United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, and the United Methodist Home for Children, Mechanicsburg.

Harrison is survived by his daughter, Mary L. Becker of Dover, PA; two grandchildren Jason Becker of Raleigh, NC, and Emily Becker and fiancé Thomas Zinger of Wake Forrest, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and spouse, Harrison was preceded in death by his son, Edward O. Perry, who died on May 1, 1980, and his sister, Myra Lesoine.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Bryce Stone will officiate. Interment with military honors conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg, will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Neighborhood Center of the United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, or the United Methodist Home for Children, Mechanicsburg.
