Harold D. “Hairs” Wenger, 73, of Mercersburg, passed away Monday, February 7, 2022 at the Chambersburg Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born Friday, July 2, 1948 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Harry Richard and Mildred E. Bordell Wenger.
Hairs was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He retired in 2003 from World Kitchen in Greencastle where he worked as a forklift operator with 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Mercersburg Moose Lodge # 1790, the Mercersburg American legion Post # 517, the St. Thomas American Legion Post # 612 and a Life member of the Greencastle VFW Post # 6319.
Hairs was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan, and enjoyed hunting, horse races and small games of chance.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Debra L. Rhodes Wenger whom he married June 7, 1997; three sons,
Dennis Eugene Wenger, Chambersburg, Eric James Wenger, Virginia, Joshua D. Wenger Panfilli, Chambersburg; one daughter, Jennifer Rose Swartz, Chambersburg; one step daughter, Nichole D. Nazelrod, one step son, Joshua L. Nazelrod, both of Mercersburg; four sisters, Carol “Sis” Wenger, Linda Walls, both of St. Thomas, Bonnie Wenger, Greencastle and Judy Wenger Appleby, Fayetteville; one brother, Keith Wenger, St. Thomas; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles Bordell, Fred Wenger, Robert “Pee Wee” Wenger, Chester Eugene Wenger, and Carl Lee Wenger.
Funeral services and burial will be private.
