Harold Ruthrauff

July 15, 1967 — March 30, 2022

The man. The myth. The legend. Harold Charles Ruthrauff IV (Charlie), 54, of Chambersburg, passed away at home in his wife’s arms, on the morning of Wednesday, March 30, 2022, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Throughout it all he kept his sense of humor.

He was born on July 15, 1967, in Cumberland, MD, the son of the Harold Charles Ruthrauff III, and the late Nola Jeneanne (Murray) Ruthrauff. Charlie earned Associate Degrees in business administration from WVU, and radiology technology from Hagerstown Community College. He married his love, Mary I. Bartlett, on August 5, 1995, in Chambersburg.

In his younger years, Charlie both rode and showed horses. He served in the West Virginia Air National Guard from 1985 to 1991, as an air cargo specialist. Charlie was proud to serve and enjoyed traveling around the world.

After graduating from college and moving to Chambersburg, he worked as a radiology technologist for MobilexUSA for many years. When he wasn’t working, he had a passion for old cars. He loved to drive his 1977 Thunderbird and 1999 Trans-Am. He loved spending time with his family and having “get togethers”. He was always the one taking the pictures and recording videos. He enjoyed movie nights on the weekends, complete with snacks and his family. He loved listening to The Grateful Dead and was an amazing cook. Charlie was known for hosting many a campfire, where one was sure to find good beer and his music playing.

In addition to his wife of twenty-six years, Mary, he is survived by his daughter, Katherine Rosemary Gordon and husband Brandon of Chambersburg; his son, Christopher James Ruthrauff of Chambersburg; three sisters, Rosemary Mills and husband Ray of Chambersburg, Julia Sue Angle and husband Steve of Greencastle; and Jessie Ruthrauff of Chambersburg; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and his beloved golden retriever, Cruz.

Charlie was preceded in death by his mother; an aunt to whom he was especially close, Amy Black; and great nephew, Weston Rock.

The Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, has been entrusted with his funeral arrangements. His graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the Glendale Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Flinstone, MD. There will be no public viewing or visitation.
