Harold E. Mowers, 97, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Saturday, December 31, 2016, at his home.
Born on March 9, 1919, in Newville, he was a son of the late James E. and Alice Shatzer Mowers. Harold was employed at the Letterkenny Army Depot for thirty-five years, last working as a Crane Operator. He also helped his late wife with the day care they operated out of their home. Harold was a longtime member of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family in his younger years, and he also assisted the local Boy Scout Troop when his son was a member.
In the later years of his life when he and his wife’s health were in decline, there were many special times spent at home being cared for by his son, Dennis and granddaughter, Michaella, enjoying each other’s company having dinner, singing hymns, taking photos, telling stories, and relaxing on the front porch.
He is survived by his four children, Richard E. Mowers of Boinham, ME, James E. Mowers and his companion, Jan Verry of the Poconos, Dennis R. Mowers and his wife Deborah of Shippensburg, and Patricia K. Cover and her husband Donald of Chambersburg; a special granddaughter, Michaella Mowers and five additional grandchildren, Casey, Angie, Billie Jo, Mark, and Doug; nine great grandchildren, Alexis, Garrett, Zachary, Evan, Dalton, Sierra, Madison, Tyler, and Drew; and three great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Harold was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
