Harold Marpoe

May 16, 1932 — July 4, 2012

Harold A. “Had” Marpoe, Jr., 80, died on the morning of Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at his home.

He was born on May 16, 1932, in Shippensburg, a son of the late Harold A. and Myrtle May Henderson Marpoe, Sr. Harold was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, honorably discharged on July 31, 1973. While in the service he met and married Ms. Phyllis L. Black on December 10, 1970, in Georgia.

After retiring from the military, Harold went to work at the former Thomas Pretzel, Chambersburg, and then on to Ingersoll Rand, Shippensburg, where he retired in 1990, as a Traffic Manager.

He was a life and post member of the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168, a post member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, and a life member of the Minnequa Social Club, all of Shippensburg. Harold liked his beer cold. He liked to work with his hands, could fix just about anything; a jack of all trades kind of guy. Harold was a good landlord and a good and loyal friend to all he knew.

Harold is survived by his wife of 42 years, Phyllis; four sons, Harold Edward Marpoe, Sr. of Rutledge, FL, David Arnold Marpoe of Shippensburg, Joseph Boyd (Trudy) Marpoe of Dillsburg, and Bryan Keith Marpoe of Shippensburg; two step-sons, Jeffrey Lynn Kauffman of Leesburg, and Timothy Edward Kauffman of Shippensburg; two brothers, Paul Marpoe of Pleasant Hall and John Marpoe of Shippensburg; two sisters, Dorothy Britt and Mary Bechtel, both of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Thomas Marpoe.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral home, Inc., Shippensburg. Interment with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council will follow in the Ridge Cemetery. Viewing will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
