H. Kenneth Hopkins, 82, of Walnut Bottom, died Friday, January 13, 2012 in the Shippensburg Health Care Center.
Born March 30, 1929 in Altoona, PA, he was a son of the late Clarence J. and Margaret Gauntner Hopkins, and his mother who raised him, Ethel Spangler Hopkins.
Ken was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Walnut Bottom. He was a 1946 graduate of the former Shippensburg High School and retired from Sperry Univac, Harrisburg.
He was a charter member of the Jacksonville Lions Club, a member of the Cumberland Valley Lodge # 315 F. & A.M., Valley Forest # 145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Consistory, B.P.O. Elks Lodge # 578, Carlisle, and the South Newton Volunteer Fire Company. He was Judge of Elections of South Newton Township for many years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Kutz Hopkins, and two sons, Richard and Randall Eames.
Ken is survived by four daughters, Kathleen M. Ginnick and her husband Tom of Shippensburg, Cindy L. Adams and her husband Mike of Walnut Bottom, Phyllis J. Martin and her husband Jeff of Shippensburg, Jo Ann M. Negley and her husband Matt of Shippensburg, two sons, Michael Kenneth Hopkins of Newville, and Robert A. Eames and his wife Sue of Mechanicsburg, 8 grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren, and one sister, Marjorie Shoap of Shippensburg.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 in the Trinity United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Jerry Shoap. Burial will be in Jacksonville Cemetery. The Cumberland Valley Masonic Lodge will conduct a service in the church at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to the services on Monday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the South Newton Volunteer Fire Company, 16 Firehouse Road, Walnut Bottom, PA 17266.
