Gloria J. Cassidy

Gloria J. (Rotz) Cassidy, 73, of Shippensburg, passed away the morning of Thursday, August 15, 2024 at the Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born on July 21, 1951 in Chambersburg, the daughter of the late Melvin J. and Lillian B. (Helm) Rotz. She married Herbert R. Cassidy on January 24, 1970. He preceded her in death on October 16, 2021.

Gloria was a 1969 graduate of the Shippensburg High School and member of Grace United Church of Christ. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Army War College in Carlisle. Gloria then became a school secretary for Mainsville and James Burd Elementary Schools. After retirement, she volunteered for both James Burd and S.A.M.S. 

Gloria loved traveling, especially to Jamaica and taking family vacations to Disney and the beach. She was an avid reader and member of the Burd Book Buddies. She enjoyed “lunches” with her 1969 classmates and S.A.S.D. retirees. Above all else in life, Gloria loved her family. She cherished Sunday family dinners and game nights during the holidays. Her loving and caring personality will surely be missed by her family and friends. 

She is survived by her two daughters, Tonya Funk and her husband Charles, and Lori Rauber and her husband Michael, all of Shippensburg; four grandchildren, Cassidy Funk, Aaron Rauber, Carter Funk, and Jacob Rauber; two brothers, Merle Rotz and his wife Mary of Carlisle, and Richard Rotz and his wife Kathy of Shippensburg; and one sister-in-law, Julie Cassidy of Newville.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Grace United Church of Christ with Rev. George W. Heckard officiating. Burial will follow in the Mongul Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Church.
