Glenn Shuman Minick, 90, of Chambersburg, died November 28, 2023, at his home in the Menno Haven Community. Born August 15, 1933, in Newburg, he was the second son of the late Arthur William Minick and Sarah Catherine Shuman Minick. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Susan, his daughter, Kathryn (Karen), Wichita, KS, son, Jim (Sarah), Wythe County, VA, and brother, William (Becky), Newburg, along with several nieces and their families.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry and Donald, and his sister-in-law, Joan.
Glenn was a lifelong member of the Newburg United Methodist Church, joining in 1944. He served the church in many capacities, including Superintendent, Financial Secretary, Trustee, and Sunday School teacher. He also helped set the cornerstone for the new sanctuary in 1966.
He graduated from Shippensburg High in 1951 and from Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1955. He then taught high school math for 37 years—1 in Orbisonia, 7 in Fannett-Metal, and 29 in Big Spring. He also occasionally taught physics and surveying.
In addition to serving his church, Glenn served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957-1965. He served the Newburg Borough Council as secretary for many decades, and he was a member of the Newburg-Hopewell Volunteer Fire Company from 1957-1999. He joined the Newburg IOOF 562 in 1952 and served as its treasurer from 1971-2023. Glenn was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association. He was also a member of the Fort Morris AARP, and he faithfully donated blood to the Red Cross.
Glenn lived his first 72 years in Newburg before moving to Menno Haven in 2005, where he volunteered in many capacities. He also volunteered at the Chambersburg Hospital, starting in 1994.
Glenn enjoyed reading, playing games, especially bridge, and doing puzzles. He also enjoyed traveling. He and Susan visited all 50 states, as well as Russia, China, Australia, Israel, Egypt, New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland, England, Mexico, and Canada. They also spent many winters in Florida and the Southwest U.S.
A celebration of life service will be held Monday, December 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Newburg United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kevin Brophy officiating. A viewing will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., Shippensburg, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the Church.
