Glen Leroy Glessner, 97 of Shippensburg, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 in the Orrstown Personal Care Home.
He was born March 20, 1918 in Shippensburg, PA. Glen was a son of the late Irvin Jay and Nell Bechtel Glessner.
He retired from both SKF Industry’s Engineering Department, Shippensburg and the Pennsylvania Army National Guard where he was in the 104th Armored Cavalry.
Glen was a member of the First Church of God, Shippensburg, where he was a member of the King’s Sons and Daughters Sunday School Class, Choir, Men’s Chorus, Over Fifty Choir, and the Winebrenner Brotherhood. He served in the United States Army in the Philippines during World War II. Glen was a Life Member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168, where he was a Past Commander, a member of the Vets Canteen Assn., and Marching Unit, Life Member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, where he received the Legion of Honor Award and The Chapel of Four Chaplains, Life Member of the Vigilant Hose Company, and Life Member of the Cumberland Valley Hose Company all in Shippensburg. Glen was a 1936 graduate of the former Shippensburg High School.
He was a member of the Cumberland Valley Lodge #315 F. & A.M., Shippensburg where he was Past Master, Secretary and Chaplain. He is survived by three children, Sondra Stevens and friend Ed Hillegas of Shippensburg, Anita Beam and her husband John of McConnellsburg, and Dennis Leroy Glessner and friend Diane Goodhart of Shippensburg, 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Diane Glass of Shippensburg, son-in-law Charles Myers of Shippensburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel (Harris) Glessner who died March 4, 2009, a son, Edward who died at birth, a daughter, Vivian Myers who died November 30, 2015, a sister, Vivian Holtry, a niece Linda McCrae, and two great-great grandsons.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the First Church of God, Shippensburg. Officiating will be Rev. Jim Rogers and Rev. William Myers. Burial with Military Honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veterans Council will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg and one hour prior to the services in church. Masonic services will be conducted by the Cumberland Valley Lodge Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.
